... March update on my resolutions …
I will write ‘Accidentally On Purpose’ at least to the end of first draft.
Well, the word counter doesn’t seem to be ticking up very fast does it? Time has really been an issue and, workwise, it will probably get worse before it gets better. I’ve been thinking about the novel though, does that count?
I will continue to write short stories, but I will be more focussed about where I send them.
Yes, but I’m now not sure this is the best policy. My two favoured publications keep saying they like my writing style and want me to send more stuff – but I'm still waiting for a real breakthrough.
I will try to get at least one more autobiographical/family history piece accepted for publication – hopefully John’s War.
It’s still out there. I’m never sure whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing though.
I will read more.
Yes, and I’m really enjoying doing reviews for the blog, so I’ll definitely do more.
D and I will go to the theatre. Instead of just walking past, looking at the posters and saying, ‘That looks good, we should go and see that’, we actually will go.
No, no, no. Big failure here. Also down to extreme complicatedness of life though.
I will listen to the Welshman. If he tells me not to waste time on certain things, then I won’t. The Welshman is always right.
This one is undisputed. And he brought Hello Kitty stuff back from Japan for me.
I will write to my own agenda and not anyone else’s.
I am beginning to feel more comfortable with this.
I will attend a Della Galton writing course.
Yes – done that! It was fab so I’m going to another in April!
I will find a nice way to tell Smudge that he isn’t allowed to sit on the computer keyboard, or to walk across my desk kicking piles of paper on to the floor.
There are no longer any piles of paper on my desk. I have finally tidied the writing room – an achievement in itself.

I don't think that's public humiliation. I think you're doing really well! So well done you! :o)
Life has much 'complicatedness' which scuppers our best intentions. You're doing great Helen. The breakthrough in the shorties market will come and you've done loads of backstory on AOP. And you have a neat desk!
Is that a Pukka pad I see before you? I have exactly the same next to me right now!:-)
Wow am impressed by what you've achieved, and kudos for posting your resolutions update - I don't have the nerve!
Hey, this sounds like real progress to me! I especially like the one about writing to your own agenda. Good advice that. As a very wise nephew of mine once said to me, "baby steps, baby steps." :)
I think you're doing brilliantly and that shows by your determination and dedication in spite of being strapped for time.
Seems to me the only place you're lagging behind is the theatre going thing!
You're going on another course in April! Ooooh! That's fantastic!
Sounds pretty good to me, apart from the theatre bit, but you don't want to be too perfect and make the rest of us jealous!
Cally - thanks - I remain in awe of what you achieve though!
Lane - It's so nice to have a tidy writing desk. And even Smudge is playing along by sitting neatly on a chair and not doing anything awful.
Yvonne - If I don't post the resolutions update, I'll just forget I ever made any!
Sue - yes they are baby steps. But even baby steps will get there in the end I hope.
Pacha - yey - can't wait for April. And Leigh and Cally are coming too!
Karen - no danger of me being anything close to perfect any time this side of hell freezing over!
I think you're doing very well with your resolutions. It is only 3 March so dont be too hard on yourself (I'm saying that to myself too).
You're doing really well and sticking to your resolutions. I'll keep everything crossed for you for John's War. I couldn't find a copy of My England - I looked in Tescos and WHSmith as well as the local newsagent. I was really looking forward to reading your Reflections piece as well.
Debs - I know, the year goes so quickly though doesn't it? This is my way of helping things not to slip!
Annie - a few people I know have had trouble getting hold of This England. Not sure why. I'm experimenting with scanning and emailing it at the moment!
Thanks for stopping by
my blog and leaving a
message. I like your
blog.

You have Hello Kitty stuff from Japan????? Oh I am sooooo jealous :)
I think you're doing so well - keep going. You'll get there.
x
Terry - you're very welcome!
Caroline - I do indeed have Hello Kitty stuff! I have a propelling pencil and a mobile phone charm/desk charm - I'm using it as a desk charm anyway!
It's awesome how well you're doing - you're such an inspiration. You put the work in and you'll reap the rewards. Keep up the good work!
Hey, Helen, to me it sounds as though you are doing brilliantly well.
I'm interested by your stories about family history - that was one of the things that started me writing again a few years ago.
Don't beat yourself up - celebrate.
a propelling Hello Kitty pencil!!!!! Wow!
I fear that no one else will ever be as impressed as I am!
x
Jen - thank you. It feels like a struggle at the moment with other demands on my time. But I refuse to give up!
Aliqot - I love doing the autobiographical stuff. Strangely, although I've been told there's no market for it, it's also where I've had most success!
Caroline - sadly darling, I suspect you're right!
You're doing brilliantly!
About that April course with Della - would love to meet up with you afterwards if possible. My email is kath.mcgurl (at) ntlworld.com
Let me know the date and if you are likely to hang around afterwards, cheers!
